Luke Gerrish

Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass

My name is Luke, and I have been playing piano for my entire living memory. I achieved ABRSM piano grades 1-5 at a young age, and developed an advanced theoretical knowledge of classical music during my A Level studies. I am a graduate of the Academy of Contemporary Music, in which I specialised in Keyboards under Brian Henry (touring musician for Soul II Soul, The Jacksons). During my studies, I developed my skills both as a solo performer and as an asset within bands of multiple genres. From 15+ years of experience with multiple tutors, I am equipped to provide you with the fundamentals of piano in Classical, Jazz and/or Contemporary Music (Pop, Rock, Blues, Folk, R&B, Funk, Soul).

Not limiting my music development to just keyboards, I can also play bass, electric and acoustic guitar. Music theory fascinates me, as well as orchestral scoring, composition for film & TV and audio production. As well as my own self guided projects, I am collaborating with other musicians, songwriters and producers to further broaden my musical knowledge.

I believe that everybody processes music and their instrument uniquely, so my approach to teaching is to provide individually crafted sessions with an emphasis on developing and maintaining an interest in your instrument and advancing your musical ability. Previous students have been of all ages with varied prior musical abilities, and each developed a distinctive and unique appreciation of their craft moving forward.

In our first session, I will encourage you to discuss your musical influences and what inspires you personally. From then on we can discover the options available to you and establish pathways for you to reach your goals. This will include direct instructions, visual learning materials and ear training techniques, as well as sheet music and theoretical practices.
